Mark Mathias

Director of Music Ministry

Mark Mathias has served as Director of Music Ministry at Christ Presbyterian Church since 2011.  He directs our choirs (Adult, Children’s, and Handbell )  and is  our organist.    He has served in similar positions in other churches (in Ohio, Iowa, Kentucky, and West Virginia), and is a former music educator.  His church music experience covers work in a number of protestant denominations.


Mark holds a Bachelor’s degree in Music Education from Malone College (Canton, OH) and a Master’s degree in Church Music from the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary (Louisville, KY).  He has also earned the American Guild of Organists’ (AGO) Service Playing Certificate.  Mark is active in and currently serves as subdean of the Toledo chapter of the AGO.  He also is the chimes director for the Young Voices of Toledo (a community children’s choir).


A native of Tuscarawas County in eastern Ohio, he is married to Denise (also a local church music director and organist) and has three adult daughters and a grandson.  In his spare time he enjoys reading mysteries and science fiction, singing in a local chorus, attending concerts, and spending time with his family.
