Rev. Lanie Sipes
Lanie grew up in Chillicothe, a small city in south central Ohio. She fondly refers to herself as a “cradle Presbyterian”, because the First Presbyterian Church of Chillicothe had a huge impact on her life from the day she was born, and it was there that she first learned about God. She was and is very fortunate and blessed to have extremely supportive and loving family and friends. Growing up, Lanie was involved in many activities, including tap dance, multiple choirs and bands, soccer, musicals and plays, and youth group. She also enjoyed Sunday dinners with her family, walking on the bike path behind her parents’ house, and playing with her younger brother and cousins.
Lanie graduated from Union-Scioto High School in 2009, and from Wright State University (Dayton, OH) in April 2013 with a B.A. in International Studies, and a double-minor in International Business and Music. In college she was involved in concert band, multiple choirs, Campus Crusade for Christ, Residential Community Association, President’s Ambassadors, various honors societies, and served as a Youth Leader at Fairmont Presbyterian Church for two years. While at Wright State, Lanie met her husband, Mike, in Spanish class – they got married in August 2014.
In May 2016, Lanie graduated from Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary with a Master of Divinity degree. During her time at LPTS, she served in field placements at Wayside Christian Mission, Bardstown Road Presbyterian Church, Bellarmine University, and completed a unit of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) at University Hospital of Louisville. Also, she was involved in various activities at LPTS, including Residential Housing Advisory Board, Seminary Choir, Student Government, the Women’s Center, and Agape Theatre.
Following seminary, Lanie served for a year as the CE Director for Spiritual Growth and Mission at Bardstown Road Presbyterian Church in Louisville, KY. In her ministry there, she worked primarily with children, youth, and young adults, but also taught a few adult classes and helped to lead worship. In addition to her ministry at BRPC, she also completed two more units of CPE at St. Matthews Pastoral Counseling Center Parish-Based CPE.
In August 2017, Lanie began her ministry as the Associate Pastor at Christ Presbyterian Church. Here she primarily works with Youth Ministry, Children and Family Ministry, and Christian Discipleship, as well as helps to lead worship and provide pastoral care.
