We are an Equipping Church

An Equipping Church prepares people to understand their gifts and live out their calling in every area of their lives -- church, community, family, marketplace, and mission. It promotes discipleship that includes both knowledge and action, resulting in group maturity.

Our church leaders have voted to count equipping ministry as a primary goal. They believe there is a strong Biblical foundation for discerning our gifts and equipping members of our congregation for ministry.

As an equipping church we place a major emphasis on prayer, the priesthood of all believers, servant leadership, team ministry, and a proactive approach to change.

What are spiritual gifts?

We mention them frequently when referring to equipping ministry. Spiritual gifts are special abilities distributed by the Holy Spirit to every believer according to God's design and grace for the common good of the body of Christ. We believe the Holy Spirit is working in each believer to help them accomplish God's will. (See 1 Corinthians 12:7)

Five of the gifts given to believers:

Craftsmanship: Work with wood, metal glass, plastic, fabric, and other raw materials. Work with different kinds of tools and skilled with hands. (See Exodus 31:3, 35:31-35)

Creative Communication: Use the arts to communicate. Develop and use artistic skills such as dance, writing, art, music. (See 1 Psalms 150:3-5)

Discernment: To separate or make a distinction, differentiate. The gift of Discernment is the divine enablement to distinguish between truth and error. It is able to discern the spirits, differentiating between good and evil, right and wrong. (See 1 Corinthians 12:10, Acts 5:1-4, Matthew 16:21-23)

Encouragement: The gift of Encouragement is the divine enablement to present truth so as to strengthen, comfort, or urge to action those who are discourage or wavering in their faith. (See Romans 12:8, Acts 11:22-24, Acts 15:30-32)

Giving: One who has this gift enjoys managing one's finances and limiting one's lifestyle in order to give as much of their resources as possible. (See Romans 12:8, Luke 21:1-4)
